Updates in Infertility Treatment (UIT 2012), Budapest, 2/2012

From 8 to 10 February, this scientific meeting in Budapest brought together 900 specialists from around the world. Held biennially since 1994, UIT 2012 focused on key topics in reproductive medicine — the work-up and prognosis of infertility, treatment safety, and the problem of multiple pregnancies.

Appropriate ovarian stimulation

What is the optimal ovarian stimulation regimen? From whose perspective do we choose a treatment protocol — the woman’s, the clinician’s or the state’s? Who decides whether a regimen is optimal — the clinician, the specialist, or the published literature? What lies behind “individualisation” of treatment — ignorance, or our inability to interpret the literature? How should we arrive at answers to the multiple questions that arise in ovarian stimulation? In 2012, which answers can be supported by the best published evidence?
