7th Congress of the Hellenic HPV Society, Thessaloniki, 2/2016

The 7th Congress of the Hellenic HPV Society [Hellenic Society for the Study and Management of Human Papillomavirus (HPV)] took place in Thessaloniki. Topics included: new developments in primary and secondary prevention of HPV-related diseases; the emerging shift in the cervical cancer prevention paradigm beyond the Pap test; new proposals for prevention and early diagnosis of HPV-related lesions outside the genital tract; recognition of increased risk in specific population groups; recent changes in the National Vaccination Programme regarding ages and target populations for HPV vaccination; the anticipated approval of the new nine-valent HPV vaccine; the possible involvement of HPV in pathogenic mechanisms during pregnancy; and the role of smoking and other lifestyle factors on the immune response of the HPV-affected host.
