Evidence based management of poor ovarian response in IVF

Managing poor ovarian response is one of the largest problems in ovarian stimulation for IVF. However, the difficulties of defining poor response, of designing adequate studies and of recruiting sufficient patients often produce confusion about the efficacy of any given treatment — among specialists, and even more so among patients. The lecture took an approach grounded only in robust evidence, where it exists.

Recent advances in GnRH antagonist protocols

The introduction of GnRH antagonists into IVF simplified ovarian stimulation for patients. From the clinician’s side, however, new questions arose and new problems had to be solved that did not exist with the agonist long protocol that had been used for decades. The challenge brought about by the antagonists revitalised ovarian stimulation and led to a deeper, more substantive understanding of it.
