Shape: in-clinic meeting, Thessaloniki, 12/2010

This two-day meeting, organised by the Reproduction Unit of the 1st Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and the Biogenesis IVF centre, hosted a series of lectures for visitors from a number of countries who came to exchange views and, above all, to observe the working of an internationally recognised reproduction unit.

Physicians from Canada, Spain, South Africa, Egypt, China, France and Russia had the opportunity to discuss both everyday topics in reproductive medicine and challenging cases for which the literature offers no clear answers.

What should the clinician have in mind when choosing a GnRH analogue for ovarian stimulation? The presentation compared GnRH agonists and antagonists, drawing on 24 years of experience with agonists and 11 years with antagonists. On grounds of safety, efficacy and patient friendliness, antagonists are the obvious analogue of choice.
